Get Into: Employment

YOTA has been collaborating with the King’s Trust International (KTI) to implement the UK charity’s flagship Get Into initiative in Ghana. The programme prepares young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) to secure permanent employment placements in the private sector.

The programme in Ghana focuses on opportunities in thriving sectors of the Ghanaian economy. A typical cycle of Get Into starts with a Taster Day that brings together Employer Partners and young jobseekers to get an idea of the programme. Young people are shortlisted for sector-specific opportunities and undergo soft skills and vocational training, after which they are given the opportunity to acquire work experience with Employer Partners for 4-5 weeks. These steps offer the youth participants an opportunity to gain sector-relevant qualifications. A final Celebration Day event celebrates the achievement of both youth participants and Employer Partners and marks the onset of employment placements and further progression support.

The Get Into programme is operational in the metropolises of Tamale, Kumasi and Accra. Other active programme locations include Akosombo and Sefwi Wiawso. The programme continues to expand to other parts of Ghana to reach more youth NEETs and more Employer Partners in the green economy, tourism, hospitality and other sectors.
