Youth Transformation

At YOTA, we understand that Youth Transformation occurs when youth are empowered – through economic self-sufficiency, social change, voice, agency and service – to drive positive change in their own lives and in the lives of others. In line with this understanding, we adopt a people-centred approach to Youth Transformation that involves increasing youth capabilities to better position them for work and participation in society, expanding opportunities to help youth apply and strengthen those capabilities, and enabling youth to leverage the support of institutions.

As illustrated in the diagram below, our approach focuses on transformational assets in order to help youth transition into empowered and responsible citizens. It includes a categorisation of needs from a youth lens that are critical for transformation: the ‘demand’ for skills and behaviours from society (i.e. capabilities), and the ‘supply’ of accessible opportunities required to meet such demand. Such a youth lens facilitates cross-sectoral programming to optimise youth contributions to society.
