At just 25, Fosuaa Eva’s journey is a powerful example of how targeted skills development and opportunity can transform lives.
Growing up in Techiman as the eldest of three children, Fosuaa’s life took a difficult turn after the loss of her father. With her mother struggling to provide for the family, Fosuaa stepped into a position of responsibility at a young age. Although she successfully completed Senior High School through Ghana’s Free Secondary Education Programme, financial constraints prevented her from pursuing further education or vocational training.
For four years, Fosuaa faced repeated rejection in her search for stable employment. Without practical skills, opportunities remained out of reach. She eventually took up work as a market shop attendant, earning a modest income that was barely enough to support her family’s basic needs.
Her turning point came in September 2025, when she enrolled in the Get Into Employment programme. Through this initiative, Fosuaa gained essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and workplace professionalism. These skills proved critical during her one-month hospitality training placement at a local restaurant.
Initially challenged by the demands of working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, Fosuaa leaned on her training to persevere. She learned to manage pressure, respond constructively to feedback, and collaborate effectively with colleagues. Reflecting on her experience, she shared how the programme helped her remain calm and professional in difficult situations, even when dealing with demanding customers.
Her dedication did not go unnoticed. The same restaurant that had previously rejected her application recognised her growth and commitment, offering her permanent employment.
Today, Fosuaa earns four times her previous income. She has moved her family into a stable home, supports household expenses, and is building financial security through savings. Beyond her job, she has begun receiving private catering requests, signalling the start of her entrepreneurial journey in the hospitality sector.
Fosuaa’s transformation extends beyond income. She now carries a renewed sense of confidence and purpose. She takes pride in her ability to prepare a variety of dishes and contribute meaningfully to her workplace and community. Her story has also inspired peers, many of whom are curious about how she secured an opportunity they once sought themselves.
Looking ahead, Fosuaa dreams of owning restaurants not only in Ghana but internationally. Importantly, she hopes to create opportunities for other young people who, like her, need the right support to unlock their potential.
Her message is clear and compelling: programmes like Get Into Employment do more than provide training, they open doors that once seemed impossible.
Fosuaa Eva’s story is a testament to resilience, the power of skills development, and the lasting impact of investing in young people’s potential.
