The PASEWAY project is renowned for empowering women to shatter glass ceilings in male-dominated fields. Yet, it also shines a spotlight on extraordinary stories of men who defy traditional gender roles. One such remarkable story is that of Elikplim Kumedzro, who boldly broke through the stereotypes in the world of interior decor.
Elikplim’s journey began in senior high school when his passion for interior decor was ignited. While assisting his teacher with her interior design business, he discovered a deep love for the arts. Despite enduring mockery from peers for pursuing an interest typically associated with girls, Elikplim’s determination never wavered. He took a daring step by completing a two-year apprenticeship with a church member involved in the trade.
Elikplim’s commitment led him to Winglow Academy, where he studied interior design formally. Upon graduating as a certified decor stylist, he faced surprise and skepticism from friends and family. Though equipped with trade skills, he found himself lacking the business know-how to start his own venture.
In a serendipitous twist, a friend introduced Elikplim to the PASEWAY project, which offers free training in both soft and technical skills. Joining the program was a life-changing moment. The soft skills training equipped him with critical business knowledge that he hadn’t acquired in school, such as customer relations and financial management.
“I now have a database where I store my clients’ information and keep proper records of my finances,” Elikplim reveals. The technical skills training not only introduced him to innovative methods but also reinforced his existing knowledge. The crowning achievement of the PASEWAY project was the chance to formalize his business. Today, Elikplim not only runs his own successful enterprise but also mentors and trains others.
Looking forward, Elikplim is driven by a powerful vision. “My dream is to open an interior design school to train others and encourage men to boldly pursue their passions regardless of society’s standards,” he declares. His story is a testament to the transformative power of the PASEWAY project and the importance of challenging societal norms in the professional world. Elikplim Kumedzro is not just breaking stereotypes; he’s redefining them, one design at a time.
