Youth Opportunity and Transformation in Africa (YOTA) has reinforced its role in advancing digital education reforms in Ghana by hosting a high-level stakeholder workshop that reviewed and updated ICT-related indicators within the Education Management Information System (EMIS).
The two-day engagement, held on 17 and 18 December 2025 at the Skills Hub by YOTA, East Legon – Accra, brought together key actors from the education and ICT sectors to address critical data gaps affecting the integration of technology in schools. The workshop was organised by the Pre-Tertiary Directorate and the Statistics, Research, Information Management Directorate of the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Youth Opportunity & Transformation in Africa.
Through guided technical sessions and collaborative reviews, participants assessed existing EMIS indicators related to ICT and proposed updates aimed at improving the quality and relevance of education data. Discussions focused on capturing more accurate information on ICT infrastructure in schools, teachers’ digital competencies, learners’ access to digital tools, and the practical use of technology in teaching and learning.

Hosting the workshop at the YOTA Skills Hub provided a practical environment that reflected YOTA’s broader mission of equipping young people and institutions with future-ready digital skills. The engagement also highlighted the organisation’s growing contribution to national education policy processes, particularly in areas where data and digital transformation intersect.
At the close of the workshop, stakeholders agreed that the revised ICT indicators will be integrated into the next national school census. Additional resolutions included strengthening data collection at both the school and district levels, as well as expanding ICT data coverage across the education service to support improved planning and monitoring.
The Ministry of Education noted that the review forms part of wider efforts to modernise education data systems and promote ICT-enabled teaching and learning nationwide. For YOTA, the collaboration underscores its commitment to supporting evidence-based reforms that improve learning outcomes and prepare Ghana’s education system for an increasingly digital future.
